Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Interested in our boat tours? We’ve listed the most common questions to help you know exactly what to expect from a delightful trip on the water!

01 - How long is a standard tour?

A trip through Lier takes about 45 minutes. Just long enough to immerse yourself in the most beautiful stories and discover the most picturesque spots of our city!

02 - When can I take a boat trip?

We’re ready for you from April 1st through October 31st! Find us every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday between 14:00 and 17:30 at the quay. Even better: in July and August, we operate daily from 14:00 – perfect for your summer holiday!

03 - Do I need to book in advance?

It’s recommended! During our regular operating hours (Saturday, Sunday, and holidays between 14:00 and 17:30), you can buy tickets on the spot if we have spaces available. We operate multiple times per hour, so even if one boat is full, you can usually join the next one – enjoy a drink at a terrace and before you know it, you’ll be on board! If you want to sail outside these hours or want to ensure your spot, booking is necessary. You can easily do this through our website or with a phone call. This is especially recommended on weekends and during holidays!

Maar wil je buiten deze uren varen of zeker zijn van een plaatsje? Dan is reserveren noodzakelijk. Dat kan makkelijk via onze website of met een belletje. Vooral in het weekend en tijdens vakanties is dat een goed idee!

04 - How much does a boat trip cost?

You can join us for just €5! Coming with children? Even better: kids under 12 sail for only €2. Prefer a private boat? For €50, you get an entire boat to yourself (2 to 10 people), and additional friends or family can join for €5 per person.
Want to make it special? Add our aperitif option (€4 extra p.p.) for extra enjoyment! Dreaming of a romantic wedding cruise? For €70, we’ll arrange a special wedding boat for 10 people (additional guests can join for €5 p.p.).
Coming with a group of 10 or more? We’ll happily arrange a group package – with or without aperitifs on board!

05 - Can I board with a wheelchair?

We do our best to provide everyone with an enjoyable trip! Our historic boats do have some accessibility limitations. Please let us know if you have mobility issues, and we’ll work together to find the most comfortable solution for you.

06 - Are there any discounts?

As a volunteer organization, we strive to keep our prices as low as possible for everyone!

07 - Can I bring my own food and drinks?

A bottle of water for the journey? Of course! For a more festive experience, we recommend our aperitif cruise, where we provide drinks. If you’ve booked a private boat and want to bring something special that’s not in our offerings? No problem, feel free to make it your own celebration!

08 - Are there toilets on the boat?

No, but don’t worry! The trip only lasts 45 minutes, and there are convenient public toilets at our departure point.

09 - In which languages is the tour conducted?

Our enthusiastic guides typically give tours in Dutch. Prefer English, French, or German? Just let us know when booking, and we’ll arrange it!

10 - What if it rains?

We sail in light rain – just bring your raincoat, as our authentic boats are open! If it’s raining more heavily, we definitely recommend a raincoat. We also provide umbrellas so you can still enjoy the trip. During a heavy shower, we can take shelter in our clubhouse until the weather clears – perhaps enjoy a coffee? However, if it’s pouring or there’s a threat of thunderstorms, we won’t take any risks and you can either reschedule for free or get a refund.

11 - Where do the boats depart from?

You’ll find our welcoming departure point at the Jan Hendrickx pier, at the end of Schapekoppenstraat, directly opposite the Beguinage. Don’t worry, you can’t miss it – just follow the helpful signs in the center!

12 - Where can I park?

Convenient: there are several parking areas within walking distance. Want free parking? Try parking De Mol (Aarschotsesteenweg 3) – a pleasant 10-minute walk to our pier. Prefer something closer? Parking Grote Markt (Florent Van Cauwenbergstraat) is paid but only a 5-minute walk. You’ll pass through some charming streets on the way!

13 - Can I hire a boat for a party?

Absolutely! For birthdays, team building, or other festive occasions, we’re happy to arrange something special. Send us a message and we’ll help plan a customized boat trip.

14 - How many people can fit on one boat?

Our authentic eel boats can accommodate up to 22 people. Coming with a larger group? No problem, we can deploy multiple boats!

15 - Can I bring my dog?

Your four-legged friend is welcome aboard! Just keep them on a leash and ensure they don’t disturb other passengers. Assistance dogs are always welcome, of course.

16 - Is there a minimum number of passengers required?

For a regular tour, it doesn’t matter – we’ll sail even if there’s just two of you! For group arrangements, we do require a minimum of 10 people to make it a proper celebration.

17 - Can I disembark somewhere else during the trip?

We keep it safe and straightforward: boarding and disembarking are at the same pleasant location. That way, everyone knows what to expect!

18 - From what age can children join?

All ages are welcome! Little ones under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

19 - What special tours do you offer?

We have something for everyone:

  • A cozy aperitif cruise with bubbles and drinks
  • Atmospheric evening tours
  • Fun group excursions
  • Special holiday trips with extras
20 - How deep is the water?

Not deep at all! We sail on the Inner Nete, a calm and shallow city waterway. Our traditional flat-bottom boats are perfectly designed for this. So you can enjoy your trip through Lier without worry.
